Description
While in Kentucky my wife and I spend a couple of weeks helping my sister who had to go thru an operation on her knee.
My brother- in - law was unable to fend for himself after having a stroke ,so I naturally took along my Nikon equipment which included all my lens and tripods etc.
It was a smart thing to do because she owns about 35 acres on top of a knoll and you can see for many miles in any direction. The fields all around her farm are covered in grass and hay and prairie grasses.
As a matter of fact the State of Kentucky is now working with her to develop a conservation farm for birds. She doesn't care about putting up hay and corn and no longer uses the tobacco barn, but it still makes wonderful photography, especially when the beautiful Eastern Meadowlark "my Dad's favorite bird" likes to feed like chickens in her short lawn grass . They would come to her yard every morning early and be there late in the evening catching whatever they can in the open grass.
The only problem is they are very shy so I had to hide to catch them sometimes sitting in my car and shooting out the window. I captured most of my shots between her house and barn, because it's just to hard to sneak thru the short grass of the mowed lawn. Although one time I did spend two hours taking 3 inch steps at a time sneaking up on a flock of Red headed ducks in a creek, it was really something to see them all taking off in bursts of two or three at a time.
I'll try to post some photos of the country around her small farm, pond, and fields including sunrise/sunsets etc.
She also had a pair of nesting bluebirds , as well as most birds found around the fields and prairies.
We were able to spend the time necessary to capture some good shots, no matter what the big magazines tell you how easy it is, to get really great shots takes a lot of good equipment and a lot of patience and a certain amount of skill to boot . Hope you enjoy - It's my pleasure.
